Extra Curricular Activities
Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) offer students the opportunity to participate in activities outside the daily academic curriculum in the classroom.
On top of that, it has also shown tremendous benefits for special needs children. It offers different ways for children with special needs to express themselves and explore areas of strengths that may not be highlighted during the school day.
ECA also allows more opportunities for children with special needs to meet other children and make friends. Some of these activities can become lifelong interests that can provide an outlet throughout these children’s lives. We welcome students from Headstart and children from other schools to join ECA upon assessments and advice from our multi-disciplinary team. Indoor activities such as Gymnastics, Martial Art (Ninja), Music, Dance & Movement, Art & Craft, and Playgroup lesson are offered here at Headstart.
Children must learn to trust their bodies in space—whether upside-down and right-side-up—and be able to take risks to see what their bodies are capable of. The intense movement that takes place in a gym opens up neural pathways in the brain, which can lead to increased concentration, focus and success at home, school, and in the gym. Our classes helps to increase strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and artistry for your child. We believe that the ability to connect what the brain is saying to what the body is actually doing is a vital skill for your child’s healthy development.
Arts & Crafts
Arts & craft classes promote creativity, encourages neural connection, builds fine motor skills, develops problem-solving abilities, develops decision making and critical thinking abilities. Many children with special needs are quite talented when given a paper and pencil but have no avenue to express their interests. In our classes, our children have the opportunity to be loud and proud of their creativity in a supervised setting.
Playgroup allows children to develop social skills at their own pace and encourages child’s emotional confidence. Children with special needs may sometimes struggle to read social cues, work collaboratively, have meaningful conversations and make friends. Hence, our playgroup provides the opportunity for children to engage with other peers their own age in a nurturing and fun environment.
